I have the windows 8 preview 64bit installed on one of my drives, (I have a load of OS's on drives that are in caddies so that I can check them out). Now when I turn on my printer windows 8 go's through the motion of installing a driver for my HP Color Laser Jet CP1215 but the printer refuses to print anything.
The driver that came with the printer which is for windows 7/Vista will not load from its CD, not even in compatibility mode.
Has any body else experienced this? Will the retail version work with my printer?
Any contributions would be most welcome .. Barry
You might try the full featured driver package located here Software & Driver Downloads HP Color LaserJet CP1215 Printer - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
And there is a firmware update for that printer also located at that link which you may want to consider using.
As always with HP printer software you'll need to completely uninstall any previous failed installations of their software. You may need to do some searching for their vendor specific proprietary uninstaller utility. Usually in one of the HP directories or else perhaps on the installation CD and as usual do not plug the printer into the computer until prompted by the installer.

Thanks for that, no luck though. The new driver detects the printer and seems to start to install the driver, but the progress bar gets to the end then starts again at the beginning, repeats indefinitely with no end in sight!
I have also updated the firmware in the printer.
Wonder if MS will give out a release candidate like they did with 7? That would give a definite answer as to whether I'll have any luck with my printer, before parting with any readies.
Thanks again .. Barry
Yesterday, Microsoft released KB2689861 which is supposed to have helped some issues regarding USB attached printers. Depending how you have your Windows Updates configured you may already have this update installed or at least available to you for installation.
Maybe give it a try and see if it helps with your situation.

Well I installed all updates but I am still suffering from a lack of print!
I have a printer in control panel, but usually it does not have the ability to print a test page. Now here's the strange part, at one stage in my various deleting the printer from the control panel, attempting to install the newest HP driver etc I had a option to print a test page, of course it didn't actually print but I was close! At this point the printer was visible in other app's.
It seems strange that the driver is loaded by win8 as soon as it is turned on, yet nothing.
When the printer was showing in app's I tried the troubleshoot option, this said that perhaps my printer couldn't handle a USB3 port, but when I swapped the leads about nothing happened. Of course the printer works fine on a USB3 socket in win7.
Well I guess I'll have to wait for the release version before coming to any conclusions.
Thanks for all the information .. Barry
