How do you add things to the apps menu if they aren't there.

    Hi

I have a link to the Windows 7 forums on my Start Page.
I don't know how it got there but I can't figure out how to add any more.

I installed Photoshop 6 in Windows 8 because Adobe won't let my install any of my newer versions unless I remove CS3 from Windows 7 installation.

No icon for Photoshop showed up in my Start or All Apps page?
I'm not sure why I did the install from the CD like always.

I created one on my desktop in the normal way, but if I wanted one on my Start Page how would I do it?

The only way I've found so far is to go to the All Apps page and tell it to move one of those to Start. If it's not there I don't know how you would add anything.

I don't see any way to move things from the Desktop to the Start Menu.

    Anyone have any idea?

    Mike

The absolute easiest way I have found to do this, and I know it is probably not the easiest or the only way (there may be dozens for all I know).
Is to locate the program's executable, right click it, choose send to desktop (create shortcut) then go to the desktop right click the new shortcut and select pin to start. I then delete the shortcut (if unneeded there) from the desktop, leaving it on the start page.
Just one way that has worked for me without fail. Perhaps other will have there own favorite way.
    Regards
    Randy

    Mike & Randy,

Can just Rt Clk on an item (such as mbsa.exe) & hit Pin to Start.

    Cheers,
    Drew

Thanks Drew that works for all applications.

I still don't know how I ended up with a link to the Windows 7 forum on my Start page.
I tried making one for the Windows 8 forum on the desktop, but it doesn't give you the option to pin it to the Start Page the way it does with Programs.

I don't really need the link, I just want to know how I ended up with a link to the Windows 7 Forum on my start page when I can't create any others.

I think you may have been using the Metro IE, Mike. If you have a list of your favourite sites, you can open the metro IE, put the address in the Search bar, and, if you fold the IE to see the options, you have the option to pin that address to the start menu. You did that by accident! I think not. Cannot understand how else it got there, except, as trouble suggests, you pinned a desktop shortcut. Easier enough to unpin again. Whilst on the subject - Yes, great. Problem is you end up with your start menu littered with shortcuts to web sites!

There is an easy way to always use the Desktop version of IE 10 Mike. See my Thread to see how.
