Mike, the tiles can be made small(er) or large(r)

I get it... you want ppl to see the Start icon/button w/out having to make it pop, w/out having to go to the bottom-left corner or hit Win key... sorry, no solution for that 1.

When @ Start you can shrink the whole lot @ the bottom-right corner.

I have a 24" monitor & Start tiles don't go beyond the side edges...used to but, I mucked about 'til I had something that could be fully seen w/out any lateral movement needed.
This shows the whole Start. Even if a tiles 'materializes' there, I don't necessarily keep it or need to keep it showing there. Example... if one uses the IE APP, it shows Frequent & Pinned Sites. BUT, to have a Pinned site you had to tell it to be pinned to Start... so I just go to Start, unpin it from there BUT, it still shows as a Pinned Site in the IE APP. Ergo my Start stays how I want it.

PS: I've given that IE APP a bit more of a chance & time. Still no seeing a big need for it but, just trying to investigate & discover stuff a bit more. @ least it seems finished, unlike some APPs.

And, Cat, that Charms Pop-out, also, affords you, yet, another offering of Control Panel(right @ the top). And, as you mention 'hot keys', Win+C will pop out Charms.

    Mike,

Win Key will bring up Metro Start Menu without going to the lower left corner from anywhere on the desktop. You don't have to move the cursor at all.

Drew, that's a fantastic option. That saves me from going to the upper of lower right corner to access most any option the computer has, including shutdown.

    Yes, indeed, Cat

& as my entry, also, says...yes, so true, Win key will, also, get Start & hitting it more than once will go to or back to Desktop or move through 'screens'.

    Cheers,
    Drew

I'm starting to use those shortcuts, for now using the most used ones, they save a lot of time (& clicks). Anything that will speed things along is a plus.

Re: We don't need no ******* Start Button!!!

If you want to have a start button and you want to make you own custom icon for it try Start8. I've gotten used to using the Windows Key, but I seldom go to the start page anyway, I have everything on my task-bar and RocketDock bar.

You can set Start8 so that it doesn't do anything other then take you to the Start Page, and you can make your own icon if you want to. It also has shut down options if you want to use them.

When I get my icon made I'll post it.

I also have finally gotten my Start Page organised, my problem as I found out was having to many icons in the same panel.

If you break them down into a number of areas it's much easier to organised them the way you want to.
It took me a while to figure out how to make them break up into areas.

Other then the issues with video drivers that keep some of my graphics software from working it's running great.

Very fast I'm booting from OS selection to every thing loaded in about a minute.
About half the time that Windows 7 loads.

And while some things seem to load slow, once they are running they run fast.

I'm still having problems with my CD DVD drives running slow, I don't know what to do about that, I've never had to upgrade my CD drivers before but I guess I can give it a try.

It's getting easy to get around in Windows 8, in a month or so it will seem like it's always been like this.

    Mike
