Windows 8 and solid state drives
Windows 8 will offer faster boot up speeds . Obviously the SSD drive will come into it's own in this situation . Up to now the price of a SSD has been a major reason for the slow uptake in this area . In time the drives will become more commonplace and prices will start to come down . Size has also been a reason the drives have not taken off . Price will decrease over time and increase as to size .
To get the best out of a SSD the system must be optimized for it's use . Windows 8 will be the ideal environment in which to use a solid state drive . The speed improvements over a standard hard drive are nothing short of amazing .
You can expect a decent SSD to last on average at least 20 years . Indeed you may replace your old SSD for a newer model long before it degrades or breaks down .
One word of warning when a SSD does break down , data recovery can be almost impossible or extremely difficult .
So back ups are important even with SSD's .
I for my part think the, SSD is a great improvement over the standard hard drive and use one for data backups and storage of anything I consider worth keeping .
