Thread: Black Screen with active cursor???

Hi

What you are seeing sounds identical to what I'm getting.

I have a Radeon 5870 video card!

I also have an HDMI connection to my TV set!.

Both of these things are common to both of our systems.

Maybe tomorrow I will try and reinstall again, with the HDMI cable unplugged and see if that makes a difference.

Have you tried to boot into Windows 8 with your HDMI cable unplugged?

just write this message from windows 8
if the cable is pluged, just look at your tv
the monitor screen is black, but the picture is on the tv!!!! (or you can try unplug the tv out cable)

That was it!!!

I used my TV to log into Windows 8 and changed the setting to point to my monitor and now I'm in.
I'm posting this from Windows 8.

Boy I'm glad you had the same problem or I might never have thought of this though unplugging the HDMI cable would probably have worked too.
