Once in a bit, I do get this thrilling problem while restarting - it simply hangs there and does nothing. Finally I have to hit the Power button to shut down which cannot be the best thing in the world to do.

Googling this in shows this to be a persistent & nasty thing - has anyone got a fix for it yet? I have put this into the command prompt - "bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes" ... as of today so am going to have to wait to see if this actually fixes it. But if anyone has got another fix or feels this is the way to go, please advise. Thanks! ]]>

Programs Randomly Minimize http://windows8forums.com/windows-8-errors-bsods/16733-programs-randomly-minimize.html Thu, 06 Dec 2012 23:55:37 GMT I've come across a strange problem just recently concerning my new Windows 8 PC.

Every time I bring it out of sleep mode or most times when I boot it up from a shutdown state, the programs that I open randomly minimize seconds later. This is becoming a very frustrating glitch, as it renders my laptop completely unusable for an unknown amount of time. At first, I wondered if it might be the network driver, or possibly Google Chrome, but it seems to do it when it wants to. Every time I boot the machine up though, if it doesn't do it within a minute after startup, it seems to run just fine.

Machine Details:
HP ENVY DV6 - Manuf. November 2012
Windows 8 Standard x64
8 GB RAM
3RD Gen. Intel Core i7 3630 QM @ 2.4 GHZ

I'm not sure where to even begin with fixing this problem, because every time it happens, I have to restart because I cant do anything at all with the machine.

Also, I've noticed that when it DOES finally stop, Google Chrome is always stuck up in hte top left corner of the screen, and the window itself is resized REALLY small. I cant figure out what the deal is with that, either.

Any help/advice as to what might be causing this and how to correct it would be incredibly appreciated!

Thanks!

I woke up this morning and powered on pc, Windows booted to the start/lock screen and does nothing more.

Keyboard and mouse does not respond with the keyboard num lock key lit but you can't switch it off and also there is no mouse cursor.

The only hardware change I made to the PC was to install 2 brand new Samsung 250gb 830 series SSD drives and a fresh install of Windows 8. Been using it every day since until now.

any ideas? ]]>

Windows 8 freezing after switching off TomTom 930 http://windows8forums.com/windows-8-errors-bsods/16570-windows-8-freezing-after-switching-off-tomtom-930-a.html Mon, 03 Dec 2012 15:49:08 GMT Hi, I've just upgraded from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 8 64bit Professional. Now everytime I switch my TomTom Go 930 off it freezes Windows 8 for 60 seconds then reboots Windows saying inaccessible boot device. I've read it's where Windows 8 thinks my TomTom Go 930 drive is a Windows to go USB drive but have no idea how to disable this. If I switch the TomTom back on straight after switching it off it unfreezes Windows. This only happens on my TomTom Go 930 and not on my XL. I also tried a clean install of Windows 8 and TomTom Home software but it does the same. Random BSODs for weeks upon end Probably caused by a device driver http://windows8forums.com/windows-8-errors-bsods/15821-random-bsods-weeks-upon-end-probably-caused-device-driver.html Tue, 20 Nov 2012 11:24:39 GMT I've been getting random BSOD's ever since I've downloaded a windows update for a few months back.

I've upload everything asked in How To Ask For Help With BSOD forum.

I have a feeling it's a driver that's making it crash but can't figure out which one. I don't have Avast Anti virus installed which seems to be the answer for some people out there that was having similar problems.

I have the latest windows 8 updates and I've updated my Bios with the latest.

Since upgrading to Windows 8 my laptops keeps crashing, it did it continuously when i first upgraded for half an hour. And then stopped and all seemed ok. Then on the odd occasion. But, since the new update about a week ago, its getting so much worse. Everytime on system start up, when i plug my laptop in to charge, basically with most applications it will crash with the system_thread_exceptsion_not_handled. Its proving incredibly frustrating and I don't want to wipe my machine.

I noticed other people uploaded files to go with this error containing a log on the issue. Could someone let me know exactly what file and where it is?

Any help to fix this is greatly appreciated. ]]>

Windows 8 BSOD (Mostly while running SABnzbd) http://windows8forums.com/windows-8-errors-bsods/15632-windows-8-bsod-mostly-while-running-sabnzbd.html Thu, 15 Nov 2012 07:54:52 GMT I have attached the following:

W7F Diagnostic Tool Results
CPUID Screenshots
RAMmon Results

I've been getting a bsod pretty often since installing Windows 8. The most common cause of the bsod is while I'm using SABnzbd and, particularly, while SAB is unzipping large files. I'll typically get some type of memory management message and the bsod.

After reading some of the forums, I went into my bios and restored default settings. I wasn't sure if I had inadvertently changed some of the memory settings at some point in the past. I just made those changes tonight. I'm not sure if that has solved my issue or not.

The information that I've attached was all after I made the bios changes.

Thanks for any help or direction.

USB Keyboard(I think) Causing issues http://windows8forums.com/windows-8-errors-bsods/15443-usb-keyboard-i-think-causing-issues.html Mon, 12 Nov 2012 02:33:56 GMT Since release day I've been having some issues with windows 8. Nothing too bad, just a few small issues here and there. Too be expected this early in the products life. However, I seem to have narrowed my windows 8 issues tonight. My USB keyboard started typing random characters and acted like a key was stuck. It's newish(5 months) and had worked flawlessly before, and nothing got spilled or knocked loose. Thought it might have been a virus so did a full format and fresh install since I was overdue anyways. During the install I used an old PS/2 keyboard and everything seemed fine. The moment I plugged in my USB keyboard the computer went to sleep(it doesn't have a sleep or shut down key) with any key input(space, "k", esc, win-key, ect). I rebooted and same thing, hit a key, but now it shuts down. Went back to my dusty 10 year old Microsoft PS/2 KB and not a single issue.

I'm starting to think this is possibly a windows issues, since I don't see how a keyboard could be acting this way. Any advice or hints? ]]>

File Explorer Freezing http://windows8forums.com/windows-8-errors-bsods/15438-file-explorer-freezing.html Sun, 11 Nov 2012 21:56:46 GMT Hi, Since I have recently installed Windows 8 I have only had 1 real issue with it which is the following: Every once in a while my Explorer will... Hi,

Since I have recently installed Windows 8 I have only had 1 real issue with it which is the following: Every once in a while my Explorer will freeze up and after 5 minutes orso it responds again and executes whatever commands I gave it while frozen.

I don't know if it is specific software causing this or not and I don't know where to check for the cause.

This is a clean install, not an upgrade so I will not reinstall it again unless it is the final option. Basically when it freezes I am unable to use any windows as they all freeze up and the taskbar will not respond either. I also noticed when I had iTunes open that the music stopped playing even though it was not paused or stopped, it simply froze.

The last time it happened I was playing a game and was still able to alt tab back into the game, which continued working totally fine. After I finished my game everything was responding again.

I am thinking that iTunes is the cause of it, but I can remember once occasion where it was not opened and I was just copying some files and browsing my disks when it suddenly froze for around 3-5 minutes.

I have updated all my drivers from the manufacturer's websites and all my devices work, nothing weird appears in Device Manager either. I have also already run sfc /scannow and it found nothing.

Any ideas?

On a seperate note: Why does logging in with Facebook force you to use your real name? I would think I could create a username somewhere... ]]>
